Why GR?
We are the first hostel to open in Cuenca, with capacity to accommodate more than 40 people in a exclusive location- a building from the end of the 19th century- which we have rehabilitated with effort but most of all with love, creating a modern aesthetic and functional but respecting its past and the footprint that it has left between its walls.
We offer you different types of accommodation according to your needs: double rooms, family rooms with private bathroom or shared ones. But if you are looking for events, exhibitions or activities, tell us what you need and we will be delighted to help you in order to prepare it.
In Green River we have managed to bring together an unbeatable location and careful design, with a reasonable rate. Whatever the reason for your trip could be and the company, there is a place for you in our hostel. If you are one of those who has never thought about sleeping in a bunk bed, maybe it's time to change your mind ... Welcome Green River Hostel.
Looking at Cuenca
GR in the Old Town of Cuenca
It has been the water-stone struggle that has transformed to Cuenca in a formidable natural watchtower over the centuries, which later the man used for defensive purposes, from the primitive ones, until his reconquest to the Muslims by the Christian kingdoms.
Nowadays, far from being fortified and isolated, the city cry out for the visitor to show you not only its rich and unusual architectural and artistic heritage, but also to let you know the culture and traditions of the inhabitants of Cuenca, who learned how to manage the cliffs and the heights , making them their home.
From Green River Hostel, we help you to discover this small part of the world -which has been declared as World Heritage Site - and we do giving you a privileged location on the banks of the river Júcar, which will allow you to enter into the medieval streets of the Old Town just in a few minutes and enjoy the exceptional architecture of their hanging houses in the ravine of the river, their intricate alleys and squares, and also the magical corners that you will find at every step.
If you are looking for being lost among more than 250 million trees in our region, just in a few meters you can take the road that will take you on the way to the Serranía de Cuenca, getting into a natural space dotted with villages, valleys and sickles, where water and wind have capriciously sculpted the most spectacular landscapes, with an ideal scenery for hiking, climbing, canyoning ...
River Júcar, the green river of Cuenca
Romance of the Júcar
Agua verde, verde, verde,
agua encantada del Júcar,
verde del pinar serrano
que casi te vio en la cuna…
It is this river and this poem written by Gerardo Diego, which has inspired this particular journey until we see our dream come true. It is its green waters which, over several seasons, have witnessed ideas, decisions and discussions too, why not say it ... It has been our particular romance with the Júcar that has made us fall in love since children of our land and try to collaborate with the spread of its beauty and charm dedicated to show visitors the multitude of treasures that Cuenca hides: unique museums in the world, ancestral customs loaded with symbolism, innovating architectural styles in Spain and with a rich and careful gastronomic tradition. These are just a few examples of what this small city can offer you. There are many ways to discover Cuenca ... as many as travelers.
We open the doors of our Hostel, we want you to invite to live our land in a different way.

Opening
It has been many months, even years, since this project called Green River Hostel began to dream up in our head. And it is a great pleasure for us to announce that next January 20th we will be able to celebrate the opening of our hostel in Cuenca, for anyone who wants to know it.
It has not been easy to get here, but we have had the best support on the road: from family and friends, to the great work of architects, builders, collaborators ... a great team that has worked together in order...
